Standby For FRAGO: Practice The "Mental Workout" Every Day
As entrepreneurs, we have to practice how we talk to ourselves.
Welcome to Dog Whistle Branding, the official newsletter of IRONBOUND Media, brought to you by me, "IRON" Mike Steadman, Founder of IRONBOUND and The Godfather of Dog Whistle Branding.
Dear Friend, Subscriber, and Aspiring Dog Whistle Brand Owner,
Sorry for sending out this week's FRAGO Friday update so late. I realize you're probably unwinding from a hectic week and might not see this until tomorrow morning, but I hope you had a good week.
I feel extremely blessed this evening as I type this newsletter. My team and I not only closed a few new clients for IRONBOUND Media, but we also secured some one-on-one coaching clients. I'm not sharing this to brag, but rather to inspire you to keep pushing forward. My success this week wasn't due to some magic pill, but I do believe it was largely because of my mindset.
I don't know about you, I don't always do the best job of 'talking to myself.' Despite graduating from the United States Naval Academy, serving as an Infantry Officer in the Marines, and successfully starting multiple ventures, I still struggle with imposter syndrome. You know the feeling – that sense of being a fraud, of not being good enough, and so on.
No matter how well I may appear to be doing, that little voice often creeps into my head, telling me I'm not good enough or that something is wrong with me. This gets amplified when things aren't going my way, which happens all the time.
A few weeks ago, I decided to work on this issue because I know that negative thinking will not help me achieve my goals. To overcome this habit, I began implementing a morning exercise called 'The Mental Workout' from the book 'Organize Tomorrow Today: 8 Ways to Retrain Your Mind to Optimize Performance at Work and in Life' by Dr. Jason Selk, Tom Bartow, and Matthew Rudy.
I practice this exercise every day. I want to challenge you to practice it with me. Start by making a copy of the exercise below, and fill in the sections based on your personal identity statement and your three wins. Go through it each morning before or after your workout.
The Mental Workout
Step 1- Centering breath (inhale for 6 seconds, hold for 2, exhale for 7, for 15 seconds total).
Step 2- Identity Statement:
I’m a highly sought-after well-dressed& well-groomed business coach, author, and brand builder who gets to do what I love every day. I have a healthy body, an even stronger mind, and a beautiful family. I generated over a million dollars a year in revenue this year, wrote my second book, and purchased my fiance a beautiful diamond engagement ring. This is only the beginning. Every day I grow in abundance, success, and love, and as I do I inspire those around me to do the same
Step 3- Personal highlight reel:
Remember 3 “done-wells” from the previous day (30 seconds total)
Examples:
I got a good night’s sleep and fell well-rested.
I sent out over ten emails yesterday to secure connection calls.
I submitted my podcast proposal to IVMF
Imagine 3 “done-wells” in the upcoming day (30 seconds total)
Examples:
Continue conversations with 10+ people in my network to schedule connection/fit calls for services.
Attend my first Entrepreneur Call with Dr. Shelly Walling
Attend Entrepreneur Fundraising Track with FNL
Step 4- Repeat Identity Statement:
